| Windows 7: Video files not showing up in folders |

Video files not showing up in folders I'm having a problem using WMC to view my video collection. The individual folders are appearing in WMC video library but the folders are empty. The video files are .avi format and play just fine with WMP or DIVX player. I have an xbox extender that also sees the folders but the files are not there.
I've looked through this forum but I don't see an answer for this question.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just to clarify, are you using the Movie Library or the Video Library in Media Center? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Windows 7 Rc Build 7264 x86, Ubuntu CPU Intel Q8200 Quad Core Motherboard Asus P5QL Memory 2 Gb Graphics Card nVidia 8400GS Sound Card Stock Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays Hp 2207h and LG 42in LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050, 1360 x 768 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Mouse Microsoft Wireless PSU Corsair 550W Case Thermaltake DH 102 Cooling Unmodified Hard Drives 250 Gb seagate internal, (2) Western Digital 1 Tb external Internet Speed Time Warner - 15mb\s Other Info 4 ATI Digital Cable Tuners, 1 XBox 360, Life|Ware home automation,Yamaha RX-V765, Harmony 1000 Remote |

I am having the exact same problem! On another forum I wrote this:
"
I'm running Windows 7 RC. If I add a folder to one of my HDD's and use Media Center to include the folder in the libraries as part of Video everything seems to work fine. However, if I go to the video library in Media Center the folder and files don't show up.
If I use Media Player I do see the files that are in those folders. (So the library seems correct.) After that, still nothing in Media Center.
I've also tried to have Media Center just run through the file discovery (the pop up box that you get just after adding new folders to watch). This also had no result.
Does somebody have an idea?
"
It is also concerning avi's. The avi's that were in another folder while installing Windows 7 DO show up in the library and in Media Center. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number EXOPC, custom desktop, custom media center, HP laptop OS Windows 7 32 bit both Ultimate and Home Premium CPU Varies per system Motherboard Varies per system Memory Varies per system Graphics Card Varies per system Sound Card Varies per system Monitor(s) Displays Varies per system Screen Resolution Varies per system Keyboard Varies per system Mouse Varies per system PSU Varies per system Case Varies per system Cooling Varies per system Hard Drives Varies per system Internet Speed 20Mbit |

Windows 7 build 7229 x64 Did you install\uninstall a codec pack? If so, good chance you screwed up your perceived file type for AVIs.
Import this registry key: http://www.mikinho.com/wmc/fix/avi.reg. You made need to restart for it to take affect. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number My HTPC OS 6x W2K8 R2 (x64), 6x W7 7600 (x64), 2x Gentoo (x64), 1x Ubuntu 9.04 (x64), 1x pfSense (FreeBSD) CPU Core2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz Motherboard ASUS P5E-VM Memory Corsair DDR-800 4GB RAM Graphics Card EVGA NVidia GeForce GT240 Screen Resolution 1080p PSU Corsair HX520w Case Antec Fusion Max Cooling Passive Thermalright HR-1 CPU Heatsink w/ Nexus Fan Hard Drives OCZ Vertex 60GB (C:\D: System\Apps)

Unfortunately on my machine the registry entry was already correct, so something different is happening. Perhaps I need to restart the machine. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number EXOPC, custom desktop, custom media center, HP laptop OS Windows 7 32 bit both Ultimate and Home Premium CPU Varies per system Motherboard Varies per system Memory Varies per system Graphics Card Varies per system Sound Card Varies per system Monitor(s) Displays Varies per system Screen Resolution Varies per system Keyboard Varies per system Mouse Varies per system PSU Varies per system Case Varies per system Cooling Varies per system Hard Drives Varies per system Internet Speed 20Mbit |

The above registry key worked to show all my avi files, but my mpeg files are still not showing. I solved this problem by watching the following youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4LW-Ifk9WQ

(Was worried about doing anything to the registry, as it is a brand new pc and not mine thought if it went fubar i'd just format and start again!) | My System Specs | | |

After spending weeks trying to figure this out, this worked for me. I uninstalled all existing codecs I had, and am only running the shark007 pack and registry settings.
Thank you!
In my case it was all .mp4's and some .avi's, and they had shown up in WMC fine for a while and one day suddenly disappeared. On the flip side some of the "suggested fixes" such as organizing the folders and running YAMM ended up not fixing anything, but made it better to use. | My System Specs | | OS Pro x64 CPU i5 2500k Motherboard Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 Memory G.Skill 2x 2GB 1600 Graphics Card HD3000 Sound Card on board Monitor(s) Displays not noteworthy PSU Antec Basiq 430W Case CoolerMaster something or other.
