    Raw Images/Photos In Media Center

    Hi

Is there a way to enable the viewing of RAW photos within Media Center ? I know in Vista it wasn't possible, that you could only view them in explorer and Photo Viewer (?) after installing an update from the camera manufacturer.

If not, is this feature planned for Windows 7 ?

I can't seem to find any information on it anywhere.

    Cheers
    Clint.

Needs to support RAW image formats

Windows Media Center really needs raw image support. Any word if it will?

Windows explorer, Windows Photo Gallery, and Windows Media Player all support the codec’s provided by the camera manufactures so why not Media Center. It makes no sense that of all the products the one that lets you view them on TV prevents it.

More available file space = more people being able to save photos in uncompressed native formats. As long as the camera manufactures supply an OS with compatible codec there should be no reason why Media Center couldn’t have the functionality to display the image.

On Green Button an MS tech posted a year ago that it’s a planned feature but so far I haven’t heard if it’s an update for those of us running Vista Media Center or in Windows 7 Media Center.

POSTED JANUARY 2008 - "Unfortunately there is no way to display RAWs in Vista MCE because it doesn't use WIC. This is something we're looking to fix in our next release.

    Program Manager, Media Center"

This is very frustrating. If this doesn’t get added I’ll need to find another media center solution that does support viewing photo formats on TV which I really dont want to have to do.

I had this problem too. (RAW CR2 Canon) I really like the media center "experience" but I went with Picasa from google and don't miss it a bit. Picasa has more features and supports a lot of the RAW formats. You might try it. Who knows what MS will do....they haven't changed media center much in years.

Yeah I do use Picasa, but I need Media Center for the remote. I want to be able to use Media Center for what it’s supposedly designed to do. From my living room fire it up and watch TV, movies, and my photos.

I imagine it’s time to start looking elsewhere for this media living room experience.

Media Center has a lot of good things going for it, but it’s not a full media center. Once a competitor comes along offering the complete package it will be good-bye.

I'm Canon RAW .CR2 as well.

Yes, this is now works in the Windows 7 RC using WIC codecs.
