Windows 7 - 3 MAJOR Complaints of WMP12

I use WMP and i really do appreciate the way the navigation pane allows to browse by folder. I do agree the advanced tag editor should have been thrown in there one way or another but that does not bother me as much as

1. No support for Lossless formats like FLAC [even with plugins, seeking never worked for me and the duration was always listed as 0 secounds]

2. The ability to create custom libraries in explorer and have them display in the wmp navigation pane, just like the default libraries show up.

3. No zooming functionality during video playback, i.e fullscreen, overscan..etc

4. Why they don't extend functionally and permissions for extensions so they can do the allow others to do it, if they don't want to do it themselves.

I've never had the need for any of that lol.

Just a thought, will Media Player 11 install and run on 7?

There's a way to get a modified version of the installer to run on Windows 7. However, it only works on 32bit systems and losing 5GB of RAM is not worth it :-P

What's the point of WMP for power users? If Microsoft can't make a good application, why try? It might appeal to basic users, however the lack of file compatibility kills the deal for me. And WMP seems to bring MS a lot of legal troubles over trust.

I think WMP 11 was a great program, never had any problems and did whatever I needed it to so I don't see why you're complaining?

"Save Media as"

WMP 9 has the "Save Media As" option.

WMP 10 didn't.

Does WMP 11?

I don't listen to a lot of music. I mostly playback video of neices and nephews and other various relatives so WMP 9 works fine for me.

My son is using Photo Story 3 in his 2nd grade class so I thought I'd download that to help him get familiar with it and possibly put together some projects for grandparents. Photo Story 3 requires WMP 10 so I'm assuming it'll work with WMP 11. Does anyone know for sure?

I need Windows 8 for WMP 11 to work easily? Suddenly installing Photo Story 3 is becoming an expensive hassle. I'm really comfortable with XP.

Garbanzo recommended "mpc for video" - what is mpc?

Since it was a big issue on page 2 of this thread, what exactly is "tag editing" audio files?

Thanks!

windows is an OS, not an all-in-one app solution. it's nice that it comes with a media player, web browser, etc. but don't expect them all to be perfect!

Lets see...

Windows native file system for collection organizing
MPClassic home cinema for video and audio
Windows explorer for file browsing
F3 for searches
MP3Tag for meta data.

I see no need to reinvent the wheel, and especially not with half a gigabyte of bloatware. My current collection is 380 movies, 6000 songs, about 200 playlists and growing every day. I'm not about to let windows start looking stuff up online and messing with all the hard work that went into that.
