I recorded a couple of three hour television shows using Windows Media Center. I would like to burn them to DVD but they are too large.
Does anyone know where these files are located and the format they are in? I am assuming that I need to convert them to something else so that I can split and burn them, but cannot figure out where the files are.

Just a guess, because I have never used MC to record anything, but I would look in the Download folder that is grouped with Libraries, etc. If you don't know where they are, then how do you know that they are too big? If you know how they are labeled, then you should be able to use the search window on the Start Menu to locate them.

The files are recorded in .wtv format and can be converted to .dvr-ms format. Convert a recorded TV file (.wtv) to an older format
Shows recorded in HD are large and have to be transcoded to fit on a DVD, whereas files recorded in SD, have to transcoded also, but are easier to fit onto a DVD, because of smaller recording qualities.
HD uses a fixed recording quality.
SD....you can select a different recording quality (Fair, Good, Better, or Best).

My point is, that if you plan on burning files to DVD, it's easier to record in SD and work with the smaller files.

I have used Windows Media Center to record TV for a number of times.
Open Windows Media Center go to Tasks>>>Settings>>>TV>>>Recorder>>>Recorder Storage and from there, you can see where your recorded TV shows are kept so go to that location and get your recorded TV files. You can also adjust the quality of Recorded TV in here and also allocate how much disk space you would allow for recorded TV. After you're done, just click on Save.
