Retrieving Internet Explorer 8

I was asked to download IE 9 and I really don't like it. My PC freezes, and I guess there are still bugs in IE 9. How do I download IE 8. I tried and kept getting downloads for 8.

Thanks in advance.

Mimi

I would remove your email address immediately.

IE8 will be restored when you uninstall IE9. IE8 is part of Windows 7 and cannot be removed.
You no longer see IE8 with IE9 installed.
Forum tutorial of how to remove IE9.

I went into the control panel and looked at updates, but I cannot find Windows Internet Explorer 9.

Thanks just the same.

The support techs at HP are as good as nothing!

You'll keep getting IE9 update notices too unless you "Hide" it. If you have automatic update set, it will keep telling you to update. Best to set your update to notify only. You can then hide it so you don't keep getting notified about it.

If you hide the IE9 updates after uninstall your putting IE8 at risk.

A lot of the updates are Security Updates for IE8 and IE9 even if marked IE9.

Download and install them if possible.

You're not hiding the updates to IE8, you're hiding the install of IE9. You will continue to receive updates for IE8 and all security updates that apply to it and Windows. Once you hide the IE9 install, you can revert back to automatic updates if you wish. I didn't because I want control of what loads on my PC. For instance, MS will "automatically" load Silver Light which I don't care to have at this time. I've done this ever since MS automatically loaded IE8 on my old XP machine and crashed it hard. I had to do a complete install of XP (IE6) then install IE7 and the rest of my software. I still get notices of updates for the software I have on my machine as well as security updates. Reverting back to IE8 doesn't stop updates. The process is smart enough to know what's on your machine. Whether you choose automatic or notify for updates is a different issue than hiding specific upgrades.

By the way, I tried IE9 and I'm with the OP--I don't like it. I'm back on IE8, have Silver Light and IE9 blocked and liking what I see.
