With any version of Windows Media Player (as with almost all Windows applications), click Help | About Media Player. My WMP says "Version: 12.0.7601.17514", so I know I'm running Version 12.

But your problem may be caused by your mouse driver, rather than by WMP. Some mice have settings to "click" when you just hover the mouse over a selection. Also, there are "Ease of Use" settings to activate a window when you hover over it. (Click Start, type "ease" and press Enter to see the possible Ease of Use settings.)

Please tell us WHICH mouse you are using: manufacturer and model - these are probably on the bottom of the mouse, in case you have lost your owner's manual or other documentation.

I believe you are refering to Media PLayer Song Preview.

    To disable this option -

please open Windows Media Player -> click Organize -> Options… -> uncheck Automatically preview songs on track title hover -> click OK.
