Xbox media center will not connect! Please Help!

I have exhausted every possible resource on the internet, read coutless threads changed settings on the computer according to microsoft troubleshooting support pages, done everything I can do yet I cannot connect to media player via xbox. (please note I am not a pc expert, but manage the awkwardly find my through)

To give more information: My xbox is connected directly to my laptop via ethernet cable. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 4730z. The laptop is connected wirelessly to the router (which works fine). My OS is Windows 7 Professional N.
The connection between the pc and xbox is perfect. I am able to share the internet and receive it without any problems on the xbox. The subnet masks are right, the IP addresses match, when i perform a test on the connection to the pc everything works fine.

I have also set up my windows firewall to allow all permissions on Media Center as well as deleted the old installs of the extenders both in the pc media player and in the xbox system settings and memory. I checked the media player network and sharing services on the pc and made sure they were on and on automatic. I stopped my antivirus program in the event that was stopping it. I checked the networking and sharing of the computer itself, everything working just fine.

So why can't I connect the dang media player! (srry frustrated)

I then go through the motions of the media player install. Everything works fine, the xbox responds with the screen that says connecting while the pc goes through the motions of each check box until the very last one... connecting to extender. Then the xbox just stops and says unable to connect.

I am at my wits end with this. I would really love to hear some real information, something step by step that can help me diagnose the problem. Each support troubleshooting page is vague and many are outdated and do not even match what I see on my computer. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

added note: I have noticed that I can allow the media center and media player on the firewall, but there is no option for the media extender as I have seen mentioned in other threads. could that be it? Where do I find it to add it in the list...
