How do I make WMP Just as good as VLC?

So can anybody help me make WMP Just as good as VLC? Sounds like all I need is Codecs. Is it possible, or just stick to VLC?

Depends on what all you play. I use Shark's codecs with WMP and thats good enough for me.

Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs

Shark is a member here, BTW so you're assured of great tech support should you require, though the pack works flawlessly out of the box. Note there are 64 bit addon components (optional).

WMP is just lagtastic. Always wants to scan something (?) for I don't know what. No, I cannot just play files, I have to lag for hours as it scans. F0R N0THING

Media Player Classic is good to me. .mkv too, played plenty of them in it.
