Is anyone else having problems with WMP12 acting weird when playing .MOV files?

When skipping ahead in the video WMP encounters an error for me.
Also why is there no association of .MOV with WMP on the web? I don't want to have to download QuickTime to watch apple trailers when WMP supposed plays .MOV files (albeit not very good it seems)
Have you installed any codec packs??

You don't need any codec pack. WMP will play MOV, including from the web. What build are you running? Older builds did not set the MIME type properly to associate WMP with .MOV files.
Also, depending on the codec pack it will break MOV working in WMP.
And in terms of the error, I don't think WMP supports seeking w/ MOV files.
btw, I did test using the NASA HD link you provided. It opened in WMP12 directly. Build 7600.
Let me know what build you have and what browser you are using and I can setup a registry file for associating it properly
Using the Release Candidate build 7100. No seeking with .MOV in WMP is kind of lame. I guess I will just download Quicktime alternative.

Edit: As found by Shark, I originally exported the wrong key. The proper one is now updated.
I'm not exactly sure how you expect the contents of that reg file to assist anyone playing a mov file but at least its an existing key so it wont damage anything.

You do realize that no mov key exists in the mime type table but if you're going to attempt to create one from scratch I suggest you use the video/mp4 key as your basis for creating it.
I've tried different codec packs/players for MOV and FLV files in Windows 7, and I've settled on using Klite codec pack with Windows Media Player set as the default player. I haven't had any problems with that setup. Media Player Classic is buggy in Windows 7 for some reason though, but Windows Media Player works fine.

It is the existing key from Build 7600, it wasn't created from scratch. The video/mp4 is a different codec, hence a different GUID. Why would you suggest using one from a different file format when the proper one exists and was provided?
And to clarify, it doesn't assist in playing, it associates MOV files with WMP12 via Internet Explorer. File associations are different then MIME associations. The OP said he could play MOV files w/ WMP12 but not over the web, hence his MIME association were not properly configured. This was a bug in build 7100 that was fixed in later builds.
