Turning a WDTV device into a Media Center Extender?

I'm well aware that the WDTV devices (specifically, my WDTV Live HD) don't function as MC Extenders. And while I've seen developers out there that have hacked these players (specifically, this guy), I am unable to be able to get his hacks to work properly. I figure, I like the way Media Center looks in Win7, and it's a whole helluva lot easier to use than WD's menus (for example, I can't simply search for an artist or album or title while browsing through the Music folder), why not just try to find someone out there that's been able to turn WDTV devices into a WM Extender. Anyone know if this has been done? I'm hoping so, since I don't want to shell out $200 for an Xbox I don't especially need (not a gamer).

I have WD HDTV for USB. Not the Live. I'm not sure what it entails but I also have MakeMKV and it has some functions to act as a server for WD Live. It might be worth a look. It's a beta. You can either buy or keep updating to a new product key as each beta is released, for free.

You can find out more about it here:
