Using laptop as extender Any software exist to use laptop as extender ?
I can use other software etc like orb but i dont want to have to install yet more software on the HTPC when surely all it needs is built into MC
And I'm not buying a 360 for the bedroom, there's never any fun and games in there..... | My System Specs |

emm, that sounds so simple i've got to try it lol, but that will mean putting Windows 7 on the laptop? its an old one it may slow it down a fair bit and gobble a fair chunk of its hdd....
I'll try windows XP with it first though. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number gigabyte ga35p ds3r v1 OS win7 CPU q6600 Motherboard gigabyte ga35p ds3r v1 Memory 4gb ocz ddr2 1033 Graphics Card ati 4850 Sound Card Onboard ac96 realtek Monitor(s) Displays Hitachi lcdv42v01ldp thing on dvi/hdm PSU cheap 650w thing, systems pulls only 220w at wall Case metal - oh with a imon ultrabay which are very very poor Cooling lots of noisy fans Hard Drives lots, boot drive 2*samsung 500gb in raid 0 on intel ich8 / mb |

file browsing would be ok for me, but not mcuh use for less pc literate.
Is their anyway to access the tuners etc, that would be the final goal, I know orb can do it but I am trying to get away from that as its based on the availability of their server being up, if they close shop, it stops working. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number gigabyte ga35p ds3r v1 OS win7 CPU q6600 Motherboard gigabyte ga35p ds3r v1 Memory 4gb ocz ddr2 1033 Graphics Card ati 4850 Sound Card Onboard ac96 realtek Monitor(s) Displays Hitachi lcdv42v01ldp thing on dvi/hdm PSU cheap 650w thing, systems pulls only 220w at wall Case metal - oh with a imon ultrabay which are very very poor Cooling lots of noisy fans Hard Drives lots, boot drive 2*samsung 500gb in raid 0 on intel ich8 / mb |

Going to post here since I have the same question.
I don't understand why you couldn't set up a laptop with windows media center built in (like 7) as a media center extender to see live TV through the network, since you should have more options and controls than an Xbox 360. Right now I am stuck just being able to watch my recordings through my laptop, but no live TV signal or guide.
And what is this "Orb"? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS430 OS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit CPU Intel Core2 Quad 2.5Ghz Memory 8GB Graphics Card Galaxy GTX 660 GC 2GB Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Mouse N/A Cooling Heat Sink + Fans Hard Drives Hitachi 750GB
