xbox 360 with media center and lines across screen

i am having an issue with media center through my Xbox 360
i am using a VGA cable to my Xbox and running it through a monitor everything is fine when i'm playing games and what not but when i open media center it has weird lines across the screen i have tried everything i can think of, i changed the resolution and it didn't have lines but obviously the picture wasn't quite right, change the resolution back to normal and the lines come back.
does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Cheers nRiddle

Is there a setting to change the frequency of the monitor, i.e. 60, 72 Hz etc ? not just
the resolution - sounds like you have an interlacing problem.

Just a suggestion.
