Prevent Windows Media Center from autoplay a DVD

Is there an easy way that I can configure my computer, so that each time I put a movie DVD into my drive that media center won't automatically fire up and try to plaback the movie.

I often rip movies from Netflix onto DVD+RW's and watch them later. However, when I put in the DVD+RW to erase it, I'm always dealing with Media Center starting up and trying to playback the movie. Obviously have same problem when I put in movie to rip, it wants to autoplay it, and I just want to use my dvd ripping tool of choice.

Try this if you havn't already:

Go to control panel click on Hardware and Sound then click on AutoPlay (change default settings for media devices.) This gives a list of options to choose what happens when you insert each type of media or device.

If Robearl2x's suggestion doesn't work try going to Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations

Sorry for the delay, but I was away from my Win7 box for a short period of time. That worked and did the trick...I just honestly didn't know where the setting was.

You can also gain quick-access to the Default Programs from the startmenu

How do you do that? I guess I'm not following you.

Interesting quote from Help under Auto Play.

"If a media program is open in an active window, it can cancel AutoPlay and just run or play the content itself. AutoPlay won’t appear and the default action won’t happen. Some programs do cancel AutoPlay when they’re open, depending on the type of media you insert."

you can type autoplay in the windows search bar and press enter. That should open you right to the settings page to edit all autoplay options.

Or you can use the Default Programs button in the start menu and then click on Change Autoplay Settings

Ether way, but you'll see the "DVD Movie" in the list,
Just set it to "Take No Action"

    Done!
