WMC plugins needed to change how TV operates

I love the TV app built into WMC, but (for me) it has two ENORMOUS disadvantages that I hate and would love to "fix":

First, you can't just open the TV to a particular channel on schedule. - I like having the TV automatically launch on schedule so I don't miss my favorite programs. Right now, I can either RECORD every show (larding up my hard drive) and watch them later (which I never have time for), use the Windows Task Manager to launch the TV player and then try to remember what channel it was I wanted to watch at that time, OR (my current solution) COMBINING both, scheduling a recording AND using the Task Manager to open the tuner on schedule so it opens up to the channel being recorded. But this is inelegant and still lards up my hard drive.)

Second, if I suddenly see something I want to record, I can't back up and start recording from the beginning. If you rewind live video and press the Record button, WMC will start recording from the current LIVE position instead of your current position.

It would be great if plugins already exist to fix these two issues, but if not, is it even possible to write a plugin(s) that could do this? I doubt my programming skills are up to the task.

Thx.
