Windows 7: WMC doesn't have focus when returning from XBMC extender.

WMC doesn't have focus when returning from XBMC extender.

I have WMC set up with an extender to launch XBMC. Alls great when I launch XBMC; WMC closes, I see the Windows 7 desktop, then XBMC loads. I can watch whatever. When I'm done, I exit out of XBMC. It goes back to the desktop, and then WMC loads up again. But now, WMC doesn't have focus, so my remote doesn't work. I have to use a keyboard, and issue an Alt+Tab to switch tasks to WMC. When I'm trying this, WMC is the only running program; so Alt+Tab shows 'Desktop' and 'Media Center'. It appears that the Desktop has focus instead. Very frustrating.

Has anyone seen this before? I assume that WMC should have focus when it starts back up, but for some reason it does not...

OK, I have a solution that has worked each time I have exited XBMC five times in a row. I have no idea if there are any side effects in doing this, I have only just done it and so far so good - time will tell.

1. Click on Start and then Run.

2. In the text box in the Run window, type regedit and click OK. This will open the Registry Editor program.

3. Locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder under My Computer and click on the (+) sign next the folder name to expand the folder.

4. Continue to expand folders until you reach the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel registry key.

5. Select the Desktop key under Control Panel.

6. On the right-hand side of the screen, locate and double-click on the ForegroundLockTimeout DWORD.

7. In the Edit DWORD Value window that appears, remove the Value data: 30d40. I have left mine blank.

8. Click OK and then close Registry Editor.

9. Reboot your PC for the changes you made to take effect.

10. Test exiting XBMC.

Post here if you find any adverse side affects.

this has solved my problem - there has been sufficient time to see if there are any adverse affects and so far there have been none.
