the My tivo hd updated channel list about 2 hours before the channel lineup change. why cant wmc do that? i think i made a mistake getting a ceton cable card.

There's no set time limit before it gets updated. It might not be WMC at fault - zap2it might be updated for the public, but it might be the WMC section that we can't see isn't updated at all.

Read this thread:

You might want to post in their forum about it.

Patience is a virtue.

WMC does its update twice a day, but Zap2it may not update their data more often than once a day. Across a weekend there may be no updates on Zap2it at all, which is not a serious problem because there's about an 11-day Guide fully populated going into the weekend so even if a few days go by with no real Guide updating at all (at the 11-day end of the Guide) it won't affect upcoming recordings for the next few days. Yes, you might not be able to set new recordings which are out there in time until those extreme days get filled again, but we just learn to live with this.

Hey... TWC/LA rolled out bug-ridden 1st-version A28 software for its Motorola DVR's several years ago and has yet to update it! TWC/LA customers have been living with a 6-day Guide for the past 2 years, when before that A28 rollout the previous A24 software provided 14-days of Guide!

Recently, with K. Olbermann's show on Current TV was vaporized on a Friday afternoon, it took a full week before Zap2it implemented the Guide update to reflect the programming change so that it showed up correctly in WMC. Same with occasional channel lineup changes, additions and deletions. But eventually it was updated. I've seen exactly the same non-instantaneous delays with TWC/LA's own Guide when I was using their DVRs. Sometimes it just takes time (or a weekend update) for these types of changes to get reflected out at the end-user location.

Just because Tivo's Guide provider/service works "better" than Zap2it is hardly a reason to rue your investment in WMC and a Ceton tuner card to replace your cableco's equipment and expensive service.

I've been using my Ceton card (plus an ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI OTA/ATSC card) to deliver whole-house service under WMC for about 1 1/2 years now and the list of functional and economic advantages over TWC/LA's offerings is huge. I have absolutely no regrets, and only praise. WMC's DVR capability runs rings around TWC/LA's iGuide software for Motorola boxes.

You can do something constructive to help your situation.

Microsoft runs an "all things Media Center" Forum, formerly named "The Green Button" (aka TGB) but last year it was rolled into the "Windows Experts Community" forum. There are a number of sub-forums dealing with WMC itself, WMC hardware and extenders, etc., but the main entry point is this link and all you need is a Windows Live userid to contribute. Just register if you don't already have one, or log in if you do.

Now, in the WMC sub-forum itself which is dedicated to WMC software issues including Guide data, the very first thread is a "sticky" which is actually a direct link to a post which provides a direct link to the Microsoft/Zap2it "feedback" page where you report your particular WMC Guide problems to the very people responsible for making sure these problems are addressed and resolved.

Once you get to the Microsoft/Zap2it "feedback" page for reporting Guide problems (like yours, and all of St. Louis who are victims of Charter's recent complete channel number reassignment apparently), log in with your Windows Live id and provide the details of your problem.

feedbacky.jpg

The report will be received by Microsoft/Zap2it... as this is PRECISELY HOW YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO REPORT GUIDE PROBLEMS in the most effective way possible, i.e. to the exact group within Microsoft/Zap2it who want to make WMC work perfectly in every zipcode and from every content provider in the country.
