My Mount Image plug-in works w/ my DVD Transcoder plug-in to mount and play ISOs on extenders. You can download both from Mikinho | Projects. The transcoder has a few bugs w/ foreign films that I'm slowly fixing when time permits. Let me know how it goes.

There are many ways to extract compressed files from an iso image:

still seem to be having problems here mikinho, i already have ur mount image plug-in and just installed the DT plug-in now and WMC7 is stuck on 'Please wait while mounting disc image...' are there any other pre-requisites i need to be aware of, ie. does it work with MediaBrowser plugin or should i disable it? basically, how should everything be set up?

    extract iso file - Bing
but the object is not to extract an iso, it's about ripping a dvd to iso format to transcode to a media extender.

Having a Windows Home Server, I do not have to deal with all that...the movies are moved to the WHS automatically and stream to my other PC's (and this one) and Xbox with no additional work. It was a very nice feature MS added especially since I already had the WHS.

You do need a virtual drive application to go with it. Do you have Virtual CloneDrive installed? I would recommend that over any other mounting software. Also, do you have v1.3?

two other options are alcohol and poweriso, both capable of creating, mounting, extracting and editing ISO files as well as creating a virtual cd/dvd drive. They are not free, but they work pretty well.

    The Easiest way TBH:

For bluray, extract the RAW video and Audio from the stream.

use megui, MKVmerge whatever you choose and re-mux to a MKV file.
(will be anywhere from 16-30GB but lossless.

For DVD extract the RAW video and Audio from the .VOB and do the same.
just mux the raw m2v and Ac3 into a MKV .. (anywhere from 4-7.5GB)

no re-coding & lossless. A bit easier than mounting a ISO as you just launch the file, and you will only need something like haali splitter for MKV
For Extract the streams from either, you need only EAC3to ..
<<or something like MeGUI/handbrake if you do not know/want to use the cmd lines and need a GUI>>
All of the above is a free method

++ recommend using a MKV container as MP4 will have issues with AC3 and file sizes over 4GB sometimes

If you want to go the ISO route still ...
Alcohol 52% is free, but only capable of mounting the ISO. it cant make them
IMGburn can make the ISos them selve.
<<-- free alternative for making and mounting ISO

NOTE:" you still need something like ANYDVD, DVDFab to decrypt them, regardless which method you choose.

yes, running virtualclonedrive so the image is mounting but after about 2 mins buffering it goes back to the media extender screen, maybe this only works with xbox360 ?
