    Computer not digital capable

    Hi,
I have a new gaming computer with a high end video card and plenty of RAM and a high speed cable Internet connection. I also have a HDHomeRun TV cable unit which is listed to work with MS Media Center. When I set up my Media Center/TV connection it recognizes my HDHomeRun TV connection and all three TV channels via my MCard I got from Comcast cable. But next to the last dialog window, during setting up my TV connection, I got the following message, "Your computer is not digital cable ready. You will not be able to set it up for use with a cable card."

Any idea why this is happening a and how can I fix this problem.

    Thanks,

My first guess would be that your Monitor is not "HDCP" compliant. Without that "feature", Windows Media Center cannot guarantee a encrypted signal path, and therefor cannot support a CableCard. This is a requirement of CableLabs, which certifies equipment for use with cable TV systems.

There is a slight possibility that you didn't run the Digital Cable Advisor in the Extras menu. It installs some sort of DRM stuff that you need to make this work. You can find test programs that will tell you if your monitor is not HDCP. It would have to be some years old for that.

    Bye.

    Hi,
I have a flat screen monitor that is only a year old, so I think it should be HDCP compliant. I have also gone through the Extras menu in the Media Center and installed that software. I Still have problems. I think it is the HDHomeRun hardware. I think I'll send it back to Amazon.
    Thanks,

A monitor as new as yours is almost certainly HDCP compliant.

Do you have an ASUS motherboard by any chance? I remember there was something flaky about the BIOS on certain ASUS motherboards, such that the DRM software was not installed even though the Digital Cable Advisor ran OK.

If you do have an ASUS MB, google "Asus digital cable advisor" for more details.

    Good luck!
