    display driver error protected content

on the computer in my signature I just got a Ceton pcie 4 stream tuner card for use in WMC. Im getting the dreaded protected content error.

Solutions I've tried to no avail:

Only using DVI connections (I had a displayport monitor and a DVI monitor previously).
deleting the mirror drivers for logmein.
deleting the mirror drivers for logmein and windows live.

I'm using my ATI 5850 card connecting a 24'' acer monitor via DVI for the display.

Searching this site didn't come up with a solution, my apologies if this has been covered in detail and I didn't see it.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled WMP and WMC just for good measure and rebooted between each step.

Additionally I used microsofts DRM reset tool and reset the DRM.

This is solved now. There were several problems.

    1. Initially I was using a displayport cable for the second monitor. Apparently it will be soon, but as of now DisplayPort is not a HDCP compliant standard.

    2. I needed to update graphics drivers I think(scary, for some reason new catalyst drivers dont play well with my card usually)

    3. Even though I uninstalled logmein and the logmein mirror drivers my primary monitor was still listed as using a logmein driver. I had told Windows update not to keep telling me to install the driver for my primary monitor because I had done it so many times, and it turns out the reason for that was because logmein was reinstalling its driver every time I logged in. Deleting the logmein
driver and restoring the windows update took care of that part.

    4. Removing Windows Media Center and resetting all the DRM components also may have helped some other issues I had been having primarily dealing with a CMOS clock issue which broke the DRM every time It changed the clock.

I experienced this issue with my second generation HP Envy 17 2090nr as well. The protected content message came up no matter whether I was using the built in intel HD graphics or the ATI 6850 graphics.

The problem with that most likely is that the laptop display is connected internally via DisplayPort connection. There were no HDCP issues when watching via a HDMI cable connected to a Vizio HDTV

Hopefully my 24+ hours of working on this will help somebody else in the same situation. I tried to highlight my posts with the keywords I was searching.

My experience with the same error! Thx Jorpe ..

I have had this problem since Feb 2012 and it was escalated up comcast support but no ownership and or diagnosis ever came such as "it's your video card or some other software," which might have been an appropriate response. Nevertheless a roomy in the house is now paying for HBO! The problem returns but not always ... typically I tune in to live broadcast fine but once I change channels or attempt to view a previous recording the problem manifest.

I don't see a "protected content" error message but instead: Display driver error, The video playback device does not support playback of protected content.

Prior to HBO I could record any channel including MGM just like folks who own a DVR, Tivo's etc. and watching some "protected content" movie was never a problem! NOW a previously recorded non-HBO 70's movie which was recorded before HBO was added to the comcast account won't even play! This movie is rarely broadcasted and not available through distribution. Once that error pops-up forget watching the tagged item and just delete it. This is true even if the HBO live broadcast stream is working okay on that same channel.

I am using a DVI cable on a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX video card with a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and a Hauppauge DCR2650 external USB TV Tuner - which does not support pay-per-view.
