Hi!
Over the years, I have backed up a huge portion of my DVD library to hard disk; and as times changed, and my whims changed, I backed up DVDs in various formats. I have a fairly large collection of movies in IFO, ISO, video_ts, and other formats.
I am just now setting up my PC as a media center; I have gotten a multi tuner PCIe card, a multistream cable card, and I just bought an XBOX360 to use as an extender (and to play games I guess, I am still a PS3 gamer by preference, but since I got an xbox, I'll probably get a few games for it...)
So I notice that many of the movies I have aren't showing up in my media center, and when I started googling for answers as to why, I noticed that I will probably have even more of an issue when I set up the xbox (for now, it is still in the box).
What is the best way to store all of my movies where I will still have DVD menu controls, HD quality (1080p, preferably), and digital surround sound, and it all works on both my PC and my xbox flawlessly? I don't care much how long it takes or how much space it takes - I currently have about 8TB free and will be adding more to my computer in the near future... I would prefer to convert my files instead of re-ripping from the discs (as over the years I have lost a few of the actual discs; the primary reason I make the backups), but barring a few exceptions I could start fresh and rip from the discs again if I need to.
