I've decided to try and use Windows Media Center as my front end for my music collection. I thought about using iTunes but with WMC already installed on my Windows 7 OS, I figured why not. I like the interface and it seems easy enough to use.
However, I can't seem to get my media collection sorted properly!
I have the "My Music" folder setup in the library and I drop my albums into this folder. I use a Tag program that allows me to clear all the tags and set my own (IE: I always set the Artist Name, Album Title, Year and Genre).
However, something I don't understanding about the app is causing me problems.
First, in the Music Library when going into Genre, the albums are sorted by the titles instead of the artist and year, which is what I want. Second, the albums that are added AFTER the fact are not sorted properly by year. For example, if I have two albums by an artist from 1991 and 1992, they sort in the proper order year, regardless of title. Then if I add a third album by that artist from 1980, it ends up at the end of the list instead of sorting properly to the first position based on year. Finaly, if I delete and album from WMC and then put it back in the My Music folder later, WMC will not update the Library and read it.
Is there I'm something I'm missing about the general setup of WMC that is preventing this?
Ultimately, here is my ideal setup:
Pick the Genre
Sorted like this: <Artist, Year, Album Title>
Any thoughts? Thanks!
