Is it possible to download/update just wmplayer?
wmplayer is built into my Win7-64 Pro. If I have reason to suspect that functionality issues may be due to a possible corruption of Media Player, what must I do to force an update?

If Windows Media Player needs updated you don't have to force it. Just run Windows Update. Could you explain more exactly what kind of problems you are having. How did you come up with 9 gigs of ram.
With some, but not all, video files the sound will be OK for maybe half a second, then vanish, with maybe some very low volume rumbling. I should make careful note of the circumstances.
I bought the 9 gb RAM with my Dell XPS9000 about 2 1/2 years ago. I am presuming that you saw my system specs in a profile somewhere?
Just like you can see mine in the Lower Left of this post.
Use this free program to get more of your specs.

I get my specs from Speccy already.
When I go to Windows updates, there are no neew ones to be had, so nothing happens. What if some component on HD happens to be corrupt. Can you not repair it somehow?
