Set WMP 12 64-bit as default player

Does anyone know how this can be done? That is whenever you open a media file it will open WMP 64-bit and not WMP 32-bit.

Hey thanks for the link Airbot, but whenever I open a media file from Windows Explorer it opens it in WMP12 32-bit even after following that tutorial.

Yeah, the vista instructions don't work on Win 7, sorry. I found out why from here, and he also made a script to allow it in Windows 7, but it still doesn't work in the RTM. Maybe earlier builds, but from what I've tried, nothing is working.

I'll try to look into it some more.

How much?

Nope, are we taking about the script? I can't get it to work on my RTM, some others mentioned it doesn't work as well.

I read your post and link a couple of minutes ago. Grabbed the script and ran it.

Double clicked Bambi (of all things) and WiMP 64 engaged.

No other prior effort made to associate WiMP 64.

I did the same. first not as admin, then as admin. nada. Perhaps because I already tampered with the Vista instructions?? I dunno, have to play with it then again.

Yeah, the script doesn't work for me either. It still uses WMP 32-bit from a media file.

I installed Shark 007's windows 7 codec pack + x64 components, ran the program as administrator and set the default player as 64-bit and it seems to work.

After I uninstalled both the codec pack and x64 components then rebooted and it still works so whatever registry value was created/modified persisted.
