    Ripping cd's progressively slowing down

trying to put my music collection into the computer using windows media player. Using MP3 format and "best quality". First cd rips quickly. subsequent ones are very slow, taking 15-20 mins. Is this a process of "copy protection" built into the cd's?
If so why when ripping a double cd does the first disc go quickly and not the second.

    thanks

This might be a sign of a failing CD DVD drive. Some CD's and DVD's are better reflectors of light than others. When the laser gets low emission the less shiny discs won't read as well as not as much light gets reflected back.
Windows Media Centre is not the best tool for ripping CD's. Kind of like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I use Winamp Pro (paid for) but a quick Google pulled up this useful tool Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows
Try a slower ripping speed, slower is better, more accurate and set the bit rate to 320 kbs. Hope this helps. Tony

CD's are written from the inside to the outside of the disc. Usually, the ripping speed for the first songs are slower than the last songs on a disc. Speed is also determined by the disc drive.

I use the free Audiograbber to rip CD's. It will rip either MP3 or wav. Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows
