Windows Media Player why is it running?

Frequently I notice when using Windows Media Center watching live TV that WMP is running when I havn't started it. Does it run automatically when Media center runs? And when I stop watching TV and minimize Media Center to the taskbar WMP is still running and consuming 8-12% of my processor when idle. What gives?

Do you have WMP set as the default player for all media types? When clicking on any audio or video file WMP will start up automatically when set as the default player. When going to run tne MC something likely triggers WMP due to that reason.

Well I've turned off the WMP Network Sharing Service and that seemed to help. I'll give it another day
to be sure.
