HD-PVR vs. Collosus (which one?) Advice request

    Hi all,

I am setting up a Media Center PC and would like to get HD input (mostly NFL games) and record and burn them. I understand the "hdmi encryption" issue and either the hauppauge HD-PVR or Colosus should work. In short, both allow recording over the component cables.

I look at the HD-PVR reviews and they are OK - however, going to the newegg page:

Newegg.com - Hauppauge Colossus - Record your high definition video gameplay and TV programs by H.264 for resolution up to 1080i, PCI-Express x1 Interface

The colosus seems is getting shaky reviews. I would prefer an internal card, but can use the USB HD-PVR if no other choice.

Q - Anyone out there using the Hauppauge Colossus? How is it working? I sometimes wonder if the bad reviews are people trying to use under-powered PCs etc.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Or if anyone has another device to recommend.

PS - for reference, the PC I am putting this in is win7 64-bit, amd four core (3.6ghz) - FX-4100, 8gb ram.

    Thanks,
    Rob

Here is another way to get what you want, assuming we are talking about the "exploitation of the analog hole" View topic - Whole Home Media Center
