MCE Remote control crashes Media Center.

I've been using a Windows MCE remote control for about 6 months, it was great because it would work in most other software, allowing me to control programs like VLC Player and Winamp. Recently that stopped working, I can still use the four way button to control the mouse pointer but everything else doesn't respond any more. If I try to use it in Media Center it will scroll through a few menus and then MCE freezes.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Media Center and the usb IR remote control receiver and software, but with no change. Any idea how I can get this back working again?

Thanks.

Media Center crashing was coincidental, I found it does it even from the keyboard. I dont use it so I dont care.

I found a solution to get the remote working again though:
Go to TASK MANAGER > SERVICES (TAB) and click the SERVICES button.
Sort the services by name and find "Human Interface Device Access"
It is likely to have the start up type as "Manual" and not started.
First test.
Right click the service and select START
Now test the remote.
If it works...hooray. Now set the service start up as Automatic. Do this by double clicking the service and choosing the option from the drop down.
