    Help with corrupt AVI files

I tried to play an AVI video with Media Player and it would not play. After some research, I tried several programs to repair the AVI file and it did not work. This includes DivFix, 7zip and some others. I managed to at the least zip the file with 7zip (the link said it would repair but it seems to only compress it). Initially it was supposed to be AVImedic but it somehow showed up as 7zip.

    Its all too confusing.

I have tried to upload the file and it wont allow me to do so.

    Help if you can.

    I am not a computer expert..(obviously)

Was the AVI file working before? Maybe the download or transfer of it to your computer was interrupted?
Could you try downloading http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and see if VLC will play the file?

When you download software it will usually come as a zip file that may contain many files. After you download it, you have to un-zip the file(s) to a folder. Hopefully, there will be instructions in that group of files on how to install the software.

Windows 7 comes with an un-zip function. Navigate to where you saved the "zip" file, right click then select Extract All. A window will appear where you can choose where to save the files that will be "un-zipped". Or you can just click on Extract in the bottom right and a folder with the same name as the zip file will be created automatically.

The download was 12 episodes of a season. The first 6 play correctly in various programs (Media Player, Quick Tome, GOB..). Then things get funny. Episode 7 will play for 20 mins and then it stops. The remaining 8-12 do not play at all. Its like something happened at that point in the download.

I tried to download VideoLan as well and that did not work-I think something about coding..

The seaons were not downloaded as a zip file-they were downloaded from a site and it took overnight to download 5 seasons. Season 1 played wonderfully. It was in the middle of season 2 episode 7 that things stopped working and I have since downloaded plenty of free software to either convert files, play files and now to repair files..

The 7zip program (which I had downloaded as AVImedic, but it shows up as 7zip) managed to compress an episode, but now it will not play or move it. I am not even sure why it went from AVImedic to 7zip-I wanted a program to repair the file, not zip it. The 7zip was downloaded to my C drive in Program Files.

I wish I could attach the files, but it doesnt seem like I can attach an avi file. I have tried too download free software from CNET and I get similar error messafes-it cant open the file or something to do with Code...something or another..

If I cant repair the files, any recommendation of sites where I can download HBO series would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Although torrenting shouldn't be discussed on this forum...

... you should properly "Force Recheck" in your bittorent program. Or re download.

I am assuming you actually own these 12 seasons on DVD or otherwise.
