Safe to uninstall Windows 7 Media Center?

    Hi

Does anybody know if it is safe to uninstall the Windows 7 Media Center using Programs
and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off option?

Would having it uninstalled impact the operation of any of the Windows software and do
any of the pre installed programs in windows need it installed for them to function?

Since I upgraded to Windows 7, I have never really used Media Center and I don't have
a TV Tuner. If I ever did need it, I could always re-install it in again but I don`t want to
uninstall it if is gonna break the function and operation of other windows programs.

I 100% use Windows Media Player and other software for media playback etc and so I
though I may as well uninstall Media Center since I don't use it and it would save me
some hard drive space and perhaps windows resources too.

    Thanks for helpful responses.

I suspect it would impact WMP and maybe your media libraries, although I can't confirm this. I have wanted to uninstall it too but decided just to leave it since it's dormant until I want to use it.

Thanks a lot Britton30 for responding.

Can anybody confirm whether it will cause problems with WMP
and media libraries if Media Center was uninstalled?

    Thanks.

well, I actually uninstalled (disabled) the WMC, WMP, Gadget and there was no problem! since I use third party softwares, and I don't need them :)

    It'll be Okay.
    It will not affect WMP.

Thanks a lot guys. I thought it should be safe because a lot of websites have
posted guides on how to disable and remove Windows 7 Media Center and
they don't mention that it would cause any problems.

    Hi there,

I know that this topic has been solved, but I would like to address this warning that Microsoft said. Click here to view the error but basically it says that if you uninstall Windows 7 Media Center, it may cause installation failures for drivers and software.

I just wanted to let you know this because I would hate for this issue to occur with you

thanks for the information. I don't know whether anybody has had the issue, but I disabled the WMC feature after a few weeks of my 7 Ultimate upgrade, and I've never been had any problem to any installation of drivers or software. I checked my drivers regulary, so I'm quite often to install some update drivers for my outdated hardware, and all has been working good for me. :) but I'll make sure to be careful, and maybe one day I'll enable the WMC again just in case, and thank you very much for the info, it's really useful

Just an FYI, Microsoft produce a version of Windows 7 & 8 without media features installed, the N and KN versions so yes it works perfectly fine with the media features disabled in the programs and features in control panel. If you need any kind of media playback do not uninstall media player.
