PS3 Media Server not working

I have had multiple Media servers going in the past and after the Win 7 upgrade, I can now see both WMP and PS3 Media Server but the PS3-MS doesn't play 5.1 or better sound correctly. Some channels seemed to drop right out. The speakers work because depending on the scene I do hear something. I've tried Dolby and AAC.

Under Vista it took me some research and trying but I was finally able to the PS3-MS going perfectly, 5.1, mkv, all formats transcoding on the fly and it was great. Now I am running 1GB ethernet and a quad core processor so I have a bit of an advantage there. Just frustrated that my upgrade has now resulted in reduced functionality.

    A couple of questions:
    • Anyone running PS3-MS, Tversity or other media server to run under Win 7?
    • Has anyone gotten MKV to stream to a PS3 under Win 7? if so, how?
    • Has anyone gotten 5.1 sound or better?
    • Codecs? media splitters?

I use TVersity. I found the simplest way for mkv is to remux them to .m2ts using tsMuxer. PS3 can not play .dts (if .mkv has that) audio unless on physical disc. In the case you can re-encode .dts to .ac3 and then add .ac3 to original file while muxing to .m2ts. File will then have both audios and play everywhere.

Looks good. I'll have to give it a try next time I need to do this.

    DTS working

Just and FYI, I finally got DTS working on PS3 Media Server and the PS3. I'm sure I had checked this setting earlier but I must've missed it.

When watching the video on the PS3, bring up the Options menu (triangle?). Select Sound. Make sure the sound level is at normal and not + or - anything. That seemed to do the trick.

For those still unsure about PS3 Media Server, I suggest giving it a shot. It's worked with almost everything I've thrown at it include 1080p MKV files and DTS. I stopped having to pre-remux files a long time ago.
