Media center randomly fails to record

I record TV shows OTA on a PC I built and use exclusively for that purpose. I have the national news set to record at 5:30 PM and the local news set to record at 6:00 PM. The national news did not record, though history shows it did and I see a little tile where it should be. When I look for the file though, it is only 512 KB rather than the 3 gig or so it should be. The local news, set to record on the same channel ( NBC 3.1) with the same tuner, is perfect. Another show also failed to record on the same channel later in the evening. I am recording on an external drive via USB, if that has any impact.

Last week I went to watch a show after not viewing for a few days and saw multiple record failures, different channels and tuners. I thought the cause was the fact that the guide appeared to have "updated" and "fixed" itself at some point. I had previously deleted channel 49.1 FOX (which I can't receive) and use channel 31.2 (which I can). It is actually the same station but transmitted on 31.2 on the southern part of the viewing area. Anyway, the deleted channel (49.1) had miraculously and wrongly been resurrected. I thought this was likely a conflict and just made sure every FOX show was set to record on 31.2 only. Unfortunately, this was not the fix.... at least not totally.

I understand there may be a problem with the FOX station but that doesn't explain the record failures on other stations. I am at a loss...

Go to the Guide, and move up or down until 31.2 is selected. Move left with the arrow key (twice) until the channel number is highlighted. Press OK/Enter. Choose Edit sources.

You may see duplicate entries, some pointing to 49.1. Un-check those sources so that Media Center won't attempt to use them.

Save your changes.

Thanks for trying to help. Nothing wrong in the area you suggest.
Unfortunately, it did fail to record the national news on channel 3.1 again today. It is simply no longer dependable. I really don't know what the problem is. Again the local news records on the same channel and that is fine. Weird.

The HD HomeRun setup software will allow you to see the signal strength and quality. Have you checked to see if there is a problem with that channel's signal?
