Windows 7: XBOX 360 and Windows 7 is a no go

Windows 7

I glanced through the above issues stated but I didn't find any solution to my specific problem. I connected my X-Box 360 directly to my computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit with the Ethernet cable that came with it. I went through the setup on the 360 and got the 8 digit security number. I opened Windows Media Center and went to add extender. It went through the first two steps of Configuring Computer settings and Searching for your extender just fine. The third step was Configuring your extender. It keeps working on it for a little while and then gives up with the following message:

"An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this extender."

My computer is connected to a wireless network in my home. I would like to use that wifi connection to access xbox live if possible but specifically connect it just to the media center at least. In network connections I see I am connected to my wifi connection and an unidentified network through the LAN port (the xbox is connected to it). In the Network And Internet menu when I go for the full map I see my PC, a HUB and the Xbox. When I move my cursor over it I get an IPv4 address and a MAC address. In the 360's own network configuration there isn't a MAC address set. I am stumped as to what to do with it. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated
