Media Center TV optical audio problem

    Hello,

Whenever I try to watch tv through the included windows media center, my audio is a horrible static-y mess, and there is nothing at all understandable when using a Toslink connection. When using an analog 3.5mm connection, all is fine. However, I do want to use toslink.

I am using an EVGA indtube, onboard audio for the M2N32 SLI-DELUXE 570 motherboard and running Windows 7 Professional.

Any help will be much appreciated.

sorry for joining and then reviving a dead thread, I had this issue and this result was the first one that came up in google, so I thought I would answer it to help someone else out and save them some time.

right click on the audio button in taskbar - choose playback devices - properties on your SPDIF connection, then choose "supported formats", follow the test setup for each of the encoded formats,

likely the digital receiver can't take the format being passed on to it resulting in static, so once you do the setup the computer will convert it before sending it to the receiver (which in my case was a set of optical input speakers) once I did that it worked perfectly
