Problem playing ripped DVDs from 2TB usb hard drive

Hi.....

I use a Dell Zino HD machine as my media centre, using Win7 HE and WMC. All my ripped DVDs were stored on two 500Gbyte USB drives and all the DVDs played ok through WMC (using Windows Media Player).

Recently I bought a 2TB Seagate USB drive and moved all the DVDs over to this and removed the 2 x 500Gbyte drives. Initially this worked fine but now as soon as I attempt to play a DVD it just hangs after the first few seconds.

I've tried launching the DVD directly in WMP and MPC-HC and they both hang after a few seconds. Using VLC the DVDs work fine and I've also tried XMBC and this also plays the DVD.

The only thing that's happened since the initial working phase is that I added some more DVDs

I've reloaded Win 7 from scratch and its made no difference.

If I plug the 2TB Usb drive into a Win 7 netbook the DVDs won't play. I've also tried a Win 7 Laptop with the same results except this one had PowerDVD which would play them.

Connecting to the Dell Zino HD across my home network from a Win 8.1 machine allows me to play the DVD on the Win8.1 machine using WMP or MPC-HC.

I'm stuck for ideas on what to try next. I've done some searching but cannot find anyone else with this same problem.

Any ideas are welcome but I do want to continue using WMC rather than another program

BTW: Music plays ok from this drive as do MP4 videos. It seems the issue is with the IFO file in the DVD folder since I can play the VOB file in WMP.

Thxs

If VOB files can be played, try using IfoEdit http://www.videohelp.com/tools/IfoEdit to recreate the IFO and BUP files and check whether it resolves the problem. On using IfoEdit etc., you have to do your own google search for I have completely lost touch with such mundane things.

Thanks for the reply. I make take a look at that option but right now I think I'm going to convert the files to MKV format which seems to work ok so far.
