following real time TV on a laptop without payement or subscripion

I don't have a TV and I would like to follow the "Tour de France" in real time.

I live in Austria and have not found a way to do so last year. I never watch TV but do like the TOUR !

Can watch after the finish of the day small parts and have done before.

Am I in the right Forum ? Can I ask this or is it not legal ??

Thanks for any answere,

Thelma

I think that you are asking if it is against forum rules to discuss this topic? If that is your question, then I don't know the answer. Forum admins will delete or lock the topic - if they wish.

Let me start by saying that there are cable companies that offer "Watch from anywhere" services. Some content that customers could see at home via a cable subscription, they can also stream via the Internet (when signed in). Some smaller television stations seem to want to provide this kind of service to local viewers, so they stream their station 24/7 on websites like USTREAM. You might be able to find the coverage that you want via one of those stations.

Also, I've seen users that have setup their own (probably illegal) version of "Watch from anywhere". Websites like USTREAM often have chat windows beside the streamed content. I've seen those streaming stuff admit that they are rebroadcasting their favorite cable channel so that they can watch stuff while away from home. You might be able to find what you want via these channels too.

Lower your computer's volume and then you can visit/search here:
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/explore/all
OR

Google has lots of returns for
site:ustream.tv tour de france <<< click on that link

Here are two such returns:
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/str269
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/le-tour-de-france-cycle-race-streaming-tv
Hopefully, USTREAM works for you in your location. If the site works well, here are some tips for using it:

Even if a particular stream is OFF AIR, you can mouse over just above that OFF AIR indicator (or LIVE indicator) in the lower right corner of the video window/area and you should see Share popup. Mouse over Share and you should see a rectangle popup. Click on the Link/Chain icon (2nd from the bottom) and that should copy a link to the Windows clipboard.

e.g. starting with this URL
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/le-tour-de-france-cycle-race-streaming-tv
the share link contains the channel number
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/5030379
change that "channel number link" to this "embed link"
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/embed/5030379
Bookmark that "embed link" and you will have a window that you can re-size as desired. That window can be put into the full screen mode too, but you might want to have several streams going at once in various size windows.

The volume can be soft or blaring on some of these streams. Turn your system's volume down before starting a stream. If you really like USTREAM and you end up bookmarking several URLS, you might consider adding this on the end of each URL that you save:
Code:
?wmode=opaque&autoplay=true&volume=0&quality=best
You would add that right after the channel number for a final URL like this:
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/embed/5030379?wmode=opaque&autoplay=true&volume=0&quality=best
If you happen to have multiple stream windows open, it is important to have the volume at or near zero on windows that are OFF AIR - because, when they do start broadcasting, it can hurt your ears if they are louder than the stream that you are currently watching/listening to.

Not all stream will honor the autoplay setting, but they all seem to honor the volume=0 setting. Once a stream does start broadcasting, you can control that stream's volume via the speaker icon in the lower left corner. Mouse over that corner to get the volume control to show.

edit: I happen to use Chrome for streams like this. I'll have one main window taking up most of the display and 3 or 4 tiny windows/streams off to the side. I make the tiny windows as narrow as Chrome allows and set the height as needed. If all windows are streaming, you might see Chrome's Pepper Flash crash. Reload each window to recover from that crash. The reload should set the volume back to zero if you used the info above to make the URL.

Thank you so much "UsernameISSues", for all the time and effort you took to answer me.

I have quickly copieed thanpasted the hole story on an e-mail to myself so if the admin closes the thread I still have it.

Whis is very faluable info for me because, I am at the moment serieusly looking to buy a second hand mobile home and give up my rented chalet part here in Tirol at the end off the summer.

So my home will be somewhere in Europe in the future and that brings lots of freedom and fun, but problems concerning things like, mobile phone server and my post (letters, bills ect).

And the TV possibility if really wanted, here, there and everywhere.

I luckily have my little home in France, (which I have rented on a yearly base), so I have an address of residence, while on my travels. Many people find it very difficult concerning, health insurance, driving licence and passport renewal when you are without an officiel domiciel.

I will study your proposals carefully this afternoon, I am not at all a techneut as you can read in my profile.

Will tell you as soon as poss if I succeeded. "Le Tour de France " starts today in my native town Utrecht.

Again many thanks for your help,

Thelma

You are welcome. I tend to write too much for some people's tastes.

The info below does not apply to your usage of USTREAM for links that you find via search engines. It is how I stumble across streams run by television stations or companies. There is not a good way to search for these streams. I'll apologize in advance if the stuff that I write below happens to be obvious to you.

With your volume turned down, using the first link that I posted...
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/explore/all
...will take you to what I call an "endless" webpage. "Endless" in that scrolling automatically loads more pages (which I hate with a passion). For this USTREAM list website, only the second page auto-loads with scrolling. Subsequent pages require clicking on the Load more... button. The pages are not visibly numbered, but keep in mind that there really are different pages being appended to the list each time you click on that Load more... button.

Here is why I bored you with that tidbit of seeming useless trivia: websites like these often list the streams in a certain order based on some formula. That list updates on USTREAM's servers every few seconds. That makes it impossible to read thru several pages of streams without getting the same stream listed multiple times. (e.g. a mythical stream that I'll call stream1 is listed on page 3. By the time that you load page 4, stream1 has fallen in the list and it is now shown on page 4. By the time that you load page 5, stream1 has fallen in the list and it is now shown on page 5.) It is a stupid way to present a list of streams.

Let's say that you are now on page 5 and you decide to visit the full webpage for stream1. You should right click on it's name/link (to the right of the tiny preview window in the list) and open the stream in another browser window. This preserves the list that you are looking thru in the original browser window. If you don't open stream1 in another window (or tab), then you cannot get back to where you were in the list. i.e. if you open stream1 using the same browser window that contains the list, then clicking the back button in that browser window takes you back to page 1 of the list, not to page 5 :-(

To minimize duplicates in USTREAMS list, I load quite a few pages as fast as I can, then I work my way thru them at my leisure. To load them fast, I hold down the End key on my keyboard and click the Load more... button just as fast as it will appear. After about 20 pages, I'll look back thru the list.

Here is a stream that I stumbled across via the method mentioned above:
Code:
http://www.ustream.tv/embed/14427939
It is not very popular, so it is usually pretty far down in the list.
It is streamed by Go2Kite in Svencelė, Lithuania.
