Burn to blank CD or thumb drive doesn't work

I've successfully burned to a CD before. But now, Burn does not work. I've tried dragging the music to the CD, too, and to a thumb drive. Doesn't work. Any suggestions? Please if you do post, would you start at the very, very top of what I need to do? Thank you if you know!!!!

Here's some questions. Answer all you can.

1: What application are you using to burn?

2: What format are the source files? Mp3? WAV?

3: Have you tried to play back on several different devices, both PC and non-PC?

4: If you look at the burned CD in Windows Explorer, can you find the burned files? Give us the name you see for a file or two.

5: Can you think of anything you did differently for the successful burns? Different burning application? Different playback devices? Different type of source files?

6: What exact type of blank disks are you using? Brand? "Music" discs or "data" discs"?

7: Where do you want these burned CDs to play? In your car? From a PC DVD drive?

Dear Ignatz, Thank you for these questions. My responses in bold.

Here's some questions. Answer all you can.

1: What application are you using to burn?

Windows Media Player

2: What format are the source files? Mp3? WAV?

WAV

3: Have you tried to play back on several different devices, both PC and non-PC?

I don't have any other devices. I play all my CDs on Windows Media Player. Yes, the source disk plays fine. It's brand new.

4: If you look at the burned CD in Windows Explorer, can you find the burned files? Give us the name you see for a file or two.

The burned/blank CD doesn't show anything. A window pops up that asks me if I want to burn it.

5: Can you think of anything you did differently for the successful burns? Different burning application? Different playback devices? Different type of source files?

That's my problem -- I don't remember what I did. I thought I did it exactly the same way I'm trying now. Same everything: Same burning application; Same playback devices; Same type of source files.

6: What exact type of blank disks are you using? Brand? "Music" discs or "data" discs"?

Same ones I have been using, forever, to make new music CDs. They are Office Depot CD-R 52X-700 MB

7: Where do you want these burned CDs to play? In your car? From a PC DVD drive?

Don't know exactly. I'm taking the burned CD to my Yoga teacher, who has an inexpensive, portable CD player. The thumb drive goes to another class, and would be transferred to that teacher's system. I don't know what her system is, but she asked me to bring a thumb drive. I think a CD would work for her, too.

I probably can't help you any further because I have NO experience with burning with Windows Media Player.

Maybe someone else has experience and can comment.

You say "the source disk plays fine".

That implies to me that all of the source files are on one CD and you are simply trying to make a copy of that CD. If that's so, maybe Windows Media Player has some choice where you can simply duplicate a disk? I'm just guessing--I have no idea about WMP.

Hi Ignatz, That's a good idea. I actually think I might be able to simply copy the source CD to a blank CD. I'll give it a shot!
