    xBox & Windows 7 issues

I have been trying to add my xbox as an extender on windows media center, but it keeps telling me "unable to find extender".

This is puzzling because I had it setup before with Windows 7 RC1 and the only thing that has changed is that i did a clean install of the final version of windows 7. Maybe something got screwed up during the install, I am tempted to do another clean install.

I tried resetting my Belkin 54g router, that didn't work. I tried disabling my firewall and uninstalling Microsoft security essentials, that didn't work.

Oh, also, when i go to Computer and click on network, I can see the xBox as a device.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Has wireless isolation been turned on recently? Not sure if this will apply since you can see the xbox in networks.

What does the WMC test on the xbox say?

    Good page - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/w...nter-Extenders

I don't think wireless should have to do with anything because it is connected via ethernet.

the wmc test says " Your console isn't connected to a Windows Media Center PC". It then tells me to set up windows media center. So I select it and get the key and enter it into Windows Media Center on my PC and it says "unable to find extender".

The page you mentioned tells you to allow the ports on your firewall, but I disabled my firewall so it doesn't matter. Also it has stuff about wi-fi which is not being used. And upnp is enabled and the router doesn't have the ability to disable multicast (I don't think).

    Thanks though.

It works now. I have no idea how though.

I wanted to see if it was just my install of windows, so I launched a windows 7 virtual machine and tried to set it up and it worked great. I then disconnected the xbox from that media center and tried setting it up with Windows Media Center on my main OS. It worked. Weird.
