DIVX out of the box

I've read several times now that W7MC will run divx out of the box? I have Windows 7 Pro (RTM, legit) & it doesn't seem to see any of my .divx files -do I need to create the file association somehow?

Thanks

Hey there.

It does play them but yours may be of a different version or whatnot. Install Shark007's Codec pack.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations > sort by current default > Select > Change Program

The current verison of Winamp has default file associations per attached and works well with Windows 7.

Thanks guys - i think I need to amend my original statement!

W7MC runs divx files perfectly - if I double click on the file from within explorer (I've set the file association now).

However, that's not much good from the MC interface - it just doesn't list those files for some reason - any ideas how to get MC to list the divx files?

Thanks

Can you play these files from WMP12?

They play perfectly if I double click the file / or select "open with". However, they do not show up in the library on MC on WMP.

However, I had an idea last night - I had converted these files from MKV files (I'm trying to add as few codecs as possible and all of these files originated on VHS so not huge quality anyway) using divx converter - that created .divx files.

Silly me - I changed the file extension to .avi and problem solved.
