Pausing causes videos to restart after resuming

Hi, I'm having an issue where I will pause a video (either an AVI,MKV, or MP4) and when I come back to resume it, the video will restart from the beginning. I've been getting around it by completely stopping the video and then resuming from the menu, but I'd rather be able to actually pause. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Mr. Pliskin.

You can uninstall all codecs and codec packs you installed already. Then install Shark007's Codec Pack.

The file, or more precisely container, likely does not have compatible dvr data embedded in it. It was likely removed in conversion. Can you open the file in WMP12 and stop and start it? Files encoded for use with a software DVR must contain the info required to work properly.

BTW, downloading protected DVD's from a torrent site, editing them for playback by removing restriction schemes, or otherwise altering the file for re-distribution can lead to very heavy $$$ penalties in most countries that respect copyright.

I find it brazen that so many would inform the world in a forum with public access that they are likely doing such.

You do know that AVI, MKV and MP4 files could be legal too, right?

All I can say is that the usage of torrents and codec packs is well known and again I am sure people will take note of all of this.

I like torrents, Shark's codec pack and ffdshow and all the wonderful things you can do with them.

Swanson, would that really cause this kind of issue? Why would the container be involved when simply pausing a video? The files in question pause completely fine in any other program (WMP, VLC player, Winamp!). Pausing is a pretty standard and straight forward action isn't it? Of course I can stop and start the files completely fine in WMP12 and I can even pause and resume just fine as well. Why would it work fine in WMP12, but not Windows Media Center then?

Anyway, I'll try removing my codecs and installing shark's later this week.

    Thanks!

    Hey SS

What kind of codec packs do you have installed?

The answer is easy: WMC includes the dvr functionality, WMP12 does not. As you can play the file in question you do have the decoder installed for it. I suggest the file is not encoded in a manner that would playback correctly in both scenarios.
