Windows 7: Stupid Blu-Ray.

Stupid Blu-Ray.

I just got a Lite-on Blu-Ray player for Christmas. Installed it in my Corei7 Windows x64 Ultimate computer, and it won't play Blu-Ray. It makes me install a third-party program.

I HATE PowerDVD. Yuck. I feel violated just thinking about installing it.

Any other solutions? My software is essentially stock. I have installed the latest drivers & firmware for the drive and my video card.

Yuck. I wish Media Center had an update that could play these

So what exactly happens when you put a Blu-Ray into the drive? Have you tried VLC: VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player

All of the necessary system devices must support BluRay/HD AV files and have the proper drivers installed. This includes your Audio, Video, chipset, monitor, etc...even your choice of cables can affect this.

What does the HDCP panel show in the nVidia Control Panel?

+1 Monster Cables is a must.(Atleast if you're planning on plugging a laptop/desktop to a large tv.)

That is one of the most incorrect statements I have seen online in a long time. Once does not need a Monster Cable. One need a proper cable. Check out the specs and buy from Newegg.

My parts:

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Seageate Barracuda Hard Drive (Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive)

I have a S/PDIF Cable going from the Onboard audio to the HDMI cable. It works. The DVI port has unused pins that carry the sound. Unusual, but trust me, not the problem. I have sound coming from the HDMI cable (not that I use it, I use the optical from the board)
Sony STR-DH700 With BluRay Audio Support via LPCM. (Newegg.com - SONY 7.1-Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver STR-DH700)

I think it's just because Microsoft backed HD-DVD, and is hating Blu-Ray.

Well, I went ahead and bought PowerDVD 9 Ultra. I like it so far. I still would much rather have Windows handle the Video, but this program isn't bad. It's kind of slow loading, and I had don't think it would work properly installed under the 64 bit program files, so I did x86.

Windows does not currently have any licensing rights to play encrypted Blu-ray media. So a third-party decoder is a must. Me...I just use AnyDVD HD and strip away all copy protection.... >.>

Since you already purchased Cyberlink's powerDVD that should work fine, I was going to recommend you give Arcsoft's TotalMediaTheater 3 a try. WindDVD is another good BD software player.
