Windows 7: Build 7048 adds in-box WTV to DVR-MS file conversion

If it works, this solves several issues. Among them:

*Playback of Win 7 recordings on Vista (non TV Pack) and MCE 2005 boxes.

*Editing Win 7 recordings with programs that work with DVR-MS and not WTV files. (Commercial skippers, VideoRedo, etc.)

It's a nice addition but I'm not even sure why they chose the wtv format beyond the probablity of extra drm in the format.

It's my understanding that WTV added DVB subtitles support not available in DVR-MS, plus ability to record multiple audio streams.

The conversion tool is a nice addition, but will become unnecessary as software developers update their products to handle WTV. I expect most will have done that by Windows 7 launch time.

I don’t know if this will help you, but I ran into the same problems. I wrote a utility to automate the built-in wtvconverter.exe program. You can check it out at:
