Windows 7: Cannot locate recorded TV shows.

Cannot locate recorded TV shows.

Performed a clean install from Vista 32 to W7 64 bit. Using Windows Easy Transfer I saved all my files to an external Hard Disk. Once W7 was up and running I transfered my files from the External HD to W7.

We used W Media Center in Vista to "tape" TV shows.

Problem - I cannot locate the saved TV show. AL other documents , pictures etc transferred OK except the recorded TV. Any clues on what I failed to do?

Many thanks!

I could be wrong, but I don't think recorded tv is included in the transfer unless you select in the other items selection list. Do you recall adding the recorded tv folder in the transfer? Also look at the easy transfer report to see what transpired during the transfer. To access the report, go to start, programs, accessories, system tool, windows easy transfer reports. The report will tell you the location the files were on the old pc, and what location they are on the current pc (this pc).

Typically, Recorded TV is not backed up also.

In the future, you can move your Recorded TV location to another partition and it will not be affected by an OS install/upgrade as long as you do not mess with the other partition(s) during install/upgrade. The same applies for any other files...Oh, and vs. versa...

I always do that with my recorded tv folder, that way it does not affect my system drive capacity.

Well guess who is going to be in the doghouse. I should have researched that more carefully. Those files are so big I did not keep a backup. (small Clickfree backup) - got smart an now own 1 TB to use as backup

I did create an iso file prior to the upgrade but that is not going to help me since I do not plan to go back to Vista.

Any advise on how I can keep the TV recorded files "small"

AND thank you all !

Is this an iso entirely of your old system? if so, you could extract it, and see if the tv files are in there. What program did you use make the iso? Usually the program that created the iso, should also give the option to browse the iso file. Power ISO is a great program for handling iso files. I am not sure there is any real way to make them smaller, not even sure if saving them to a compressed drive will work or is a good idea. Hopefully someone can shed better light on that.

Making the files smaller or 'compressing' them, whether through a zip utility or using an encoder will likely cause the loss of av quality.

What you can experiment with is:

WMC>Tasks>Settings>TV>Recorder>Recorder Storage>adjust Recording Quality

Reducing it to Fair, Good, or Better will make the files smaller but also will cause a loss of AV playback quality.

You may find on your hardware that a lower setting works for you.
