Media centre saying 16.9 - TV playing in 4.3??

I've got a STB plugged in via composite connection into my computer, then an RGB connection to my TV. My problem is that I can't get media centre to play live tv in 16.9 ratio. I've gone through the display set up several times to make sure it's set as 16.9 with the correct resolution.

I know that I can use zoom to help but this is pretty unsatisfactory considering that I can see that the image is squashed in on each side.

I'm sure when I set the thing up i didn't have this problem, but i've since changed tv's and I think that this started when I tried Media Centre through HDMI on the new tv.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Why did you not keep the HDMI connection?

Also, all TV shows are not broadcast in 720p or 1080p. Most are still 480i which is 4x3. Also, you may have to check the menu on your STB and force 720p or 1080p. Most cable providers do not actually provide 1080p, but may provide 720p and 1080i. Each show and commercial can vary as to it's broadcast content, the STB will recognize the format and change on the fly.
