Music sounds like static

Hello all,

I just installed Windows 7 on my new system about 2 weeks ago. Everything should be up to date because I went through and updated everything after I installed.

I finally got around to setting up my XBox as a Media Center Extender and when I went to listen to my music on my Media Center, through my XBox, all I get is static. All my music plays fine in Media Center on my PC....

I am running Win 7 64bit.....

I can't help your particular problem, sorry. I can, however, highly recommend using Tversity as your upnp media server to your Xbox360. I use it to serve to PS3 flawlessly for vidz, pics and music from 2 pcs. If you have time to mess around with a new app, give it a go.

After installing, open the services page (services.msc) and then disable and stop the SSPD Discovery service and UPNP device host service, regardless of what you chose the installer to do (or not.)

Pretty simple.

You kids and your Rock-n-Roll music!

Seriously, try setting it up as just a Media Player server. It will work as a DLNA compliant server to the XBox (not as an extender). You won't get the album art work, so it may not serve as a long term solution, but it will help pin down where the problem may lie.

Hello all,

I finally went to try some of these solutions/alternatives and it just so happened to be working.

I did run Windows update a few times but I definitely didn't see any Media Center updates so I guess it might just have been a problem specific to my environment at the time. If I recreate it somehow I'll post again, but for now thanks for all the replies.
