Windows 7: Configuration

I want to further expand on a previous thread that I wrote because I am really confused about something. I prefer to configure my TV signal manually because when I let WMC do it, two separate signals are recognized and it causes problems. When done manually the instructions are clear cut and I get an excellent signal right from the box. My specs: I have the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950Q, Time Warner Cable, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250HD box and Nivida GTX275 video card. So, I hook up the cable from the wall to the "cable in" on the box and using another cord, one end to the "cable out" on the box and the other end into the tuner. As I proceed WMC finds the signal and shows a small window to confirm it on channel 3. Beautiful picture I might add. The next step requires hooking up the IR remote but unfortunately my WMC remote is USB so it's telling me it doesn't recognize the remote and I can no longer proceed. So I have to cancel the procedure and let WMC configure the signal. When I let WMC configure the signal for some reason the setup I just described above in invalid. WMC is telling me it can't find a signal and to check the cable or hardware arrangement. Why doesn't WMC recognize the signal as it was able to when done manually? For WMC to recognize the signal I have to undo all the plugs and connect the cable from the wall directly to the tuner. As I said I would prefer to configure the signal manually because I get the result and picture I'm after but the remote issue prevents me from proceeding. Comments please.

The footnotes on the WinTV HVR 950Q

  • Clear QAM digital cable TV channels are not available on all cable networks. For more information, contact your cable TV provider.
  • To watch clear QAM channels, you should use either the Hauppauge WinTV v6 or v7 application or Windows Media Center from Windows 7.
  • The WinTV-HVR-950Q includes a portable ATSC digital terrestrial antenna, which can be used within 10 miles of an ATSC transmitter. When used in the home or office, we recommend a roof top antenna for the best ATSC reception.
  • To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at: TitanTV - Free Customizable TV Listings
  • To use the WinTV-HVR-950Q for TV with the Windows Media Center application, a Media Center certified DVD or MPEG-2 software decoder should be standard in your Media Center PC. If you are building a Media Center PC, check Microsoft's web site for a list of Media Center certified DVD decoders. The Windows Media Center application is included with Windows 7, Windows XP Media Center, Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Home Premium editions only. Not all included applications on the enclosed installation CD are currently certified for use with Vista. The Hauppauge remote control is not MCE certified and does not replace Media Center remote control.
  • The WinTV-HVR-950Q is AQ certified for use with Windows 7 Media Center application.
Bowflex, are you using a laptop? If not, I recommend one of these TV Tuners:
