No sound when streaming mpeg movies

I've looked high and low but didn't see anything pertaining to this. I have multiple Windows 7 systems, each networked and using Media Center without a problem. I added another system, built Windows 7 32-bit from scratch, applied Windows updates, no other software added but this one has a problem.

If I use WMC or WMP to play an mpg file on another computer, the video streams just fine but I don't get any audio. Internet TV has audio. If I copy the mpg file to the local system and play it with WMP it works with no problem. Streaming music works fine. The audio is a Conexant AC97 chip. Fairly old but Windows 7 had no problem loading a driver for it.

Any guesses? Thanks!!
