    Remote Control

I have the WinTV 1600 with compatible remote for WMC. When I try to configure the TV signal, at the remote section I keep getting message saying WMC does not detect the IR remote. I have it attached as explained in WinTV's manual and when I push the power button, WMC loads. My set top box is Scientific Atlantic Explorer 3250HD. Please help.

This indicates that the IR receiver is receiving a signal from the WMC Remote but the IR Blaster is not positioned properly. It needs to be 1-2" max from the IR receiver on your STB.

Didn't work. I contacted Hauppauge and they sent me an email indicating the remote that is necessary to solve this issue. I ordered it today.

Hopefully my week old reply with links (and the advise Hauppauge just gave you) helped:

In fact it did. I bought the suggested tuner card and it works very well. Once I get my new remote I'll be in business. In the mean time I'm using the Win7 application to watch and record as necessary. Signal is excellent.

Great to hear! Once you want to use WMC you will need to use their uninstaller then just let Windows update install the drivers for your Hauppauge WMC TV Tuner and re-run the WMC setup!

Got my new remote, setup went through completely without a glitch. Experimented with recording shows and it works beautifully. Signal strength is excellent. Initially had stuttering and cracking but once I removed my Wii system signal cleared up nicely. Guess the IR sensor was causing glitches in the signal. Watched TV and recording on my Xbox 360 MC and it works flawlessly. One thing, how can I stretch the picture to 16:9 since my TV is a LCD widescreen HD from Samsung?

    WMC>Tasks>Settings>TV>Configure your TV or Monitor

With the setup showing on your TV make sure you select the proper connection type and aspect ratio (16:9).

Make sure your dual screen video adaptor software/setup is correct first.
