Dvd playback

Hello, as of late I have been unable to sucessfully play most dvd's from my HPdvd optical drive. The device label is "HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H30L SCSI CdRom Device". Heres the weird part, it plays work-out dvds, and audio cd's but not movie dvds nor some dvd games(i.e. BF2 installs fine but COD4mw doesn't). Another game that doesn't work is GRID, this occured, I think, after having to do a reinstall to fix some reg. errors. I have uninstalled the device and reinstalled it, also I have tried to update the software/firmware and for what I am using I am up to date.

james, sorry for the lack of response here.

Not all DVD players support all types of DVD media. A classic issue is that many older DVD drives do not support Dual Layer Disks which have become quite common. Fortunately, a DVD drive is easily replaceable/ can be upgraded easily. If you are comfotable with swapping out hardware in your PC, go ahead and procure and then install a newer DVD player. If not, consult the OEM or a local PC shop. Most older PC's can and will support newer DVD drives with the proper setup.

Yes, that says CD-ROM, games are DVD-ROM. Films are on DVD-9's.

Hello. I am playing a game which uses midi files for background music. Unfortunately, the midi playback volume is ALWAYS maxed out, such that it drowns out voices.
