Well this is how your described your problem in the first post:
... , whenever I record, there will be a frequent freezing and skipping of the program. The program will be stuck on one frame, and 3 seconds later it will resume, but those 3 seconds of the program are lost. ...
That is exactly the symptom I have in WMC, but it is probably totally different from your problem.

dmehling: did you ever solve this problem? I just set up a home theatre pc with windows 7 and am using windows media center. I have your recording problem with channel 13.1. It will reach a point where it freezes and the recording goes blank for chunks of time before returning and then going blank. I can not definitively rule out a weak signal as the culprit as you did since I don't have an alternative program to wmc to check recording functionality, but when I watch the channel itself I do not ever see this issue. I will see some pixelation when just watching (which I can ascribe to a weak signal), but do not see large chunks of time in which the signal is completely gone. It makes me wonder if it is indeed a wmc issue.

The problem actually solved itself several months ago. I have no idea what changed. But it no longer has that problem.

Media Center HD recording issue
Media center records fine except on HD channels where I think the data rate overwhelms the system. Unfortunately media center defaults to recording HD if it can. Is there anywhere to globally change all recordings to to SD rather than HD ?
