No "play dvd" icon in media center

I have an HP laptop that i did a windows 7 upgrade on. It was a vista machine. So after doing the upgrade, my media center does not have a paly dvd icon and will not see any of my movies in my movies library. I have uninstalled media center and reinstalled it to have the same issue. I have been on hp chat session for hours trying to fix this, but they are stumped and have had me restore the system several times. I did a clean install of win7 and that works just fine, but if I do a clean install, I lose all the preinstalled software and no longer have a dvd burning software suite. I am at the point at which I will buy a dvd burning software suite and just do a clean install of win7. Anyone have any ideas?

HP will typically disable the DVD functionality in favor of their own software.

Just import the following registry key to have it shown again.
